American still holds a hardline towards China after the midterm election

Some people may ask whether the US will change its hardline policy towards China in Trump’s administration. However, the Republicans and Democrats somehow has reached their consensus on the underlying US-China policies. Unless China turns its aggressive and repressive policies, the US will probably not alter its hardline towards China.

China has long been a threat to the US’s hegemonic power in the world stage. Deng’s ‘lay low’ policy seems to be replaced by Xi’s ‘China Dream’ which emphasizes the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and ‘do something’ in the world policies. Such ambition has been deemed to be a threat to American. For instance, Chinese proposed One Belt One Road Initiative to expand its power not only in Asia but also Middle East and Europe. The US no longer see Beijing as a peaceful rising power but a competitor. As a result, the rise of China has caught the US attention. Both Republicans and Democrats have noticed such phenomenon and reach consensus – unless China is no longer suppressive and repressive, the US will not soften its hardline..
